Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! I can’t believe the school year is about to begin. I am so excited that it’s time to come back to school. Learning is our primary goal at Ellington and in order for us to achieve our goal, we need our students here. So welcome back!

Please allow me to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Alexis Norman and I am your new Principal. I am so happy to have joined the Ellington staff this year. I am very excited to meet all of you and I consider myself lucky to have been given the opportunity to be your principal.

This position offers new and exciting challenges for me, all of which I am looking forward to. Previously, I was the principal at Magnolia Elementary here in Azusa. Prior to that I worked for the Compton Unified School District as a teacher, a site curriculum specialist, and ultimately the district English learner curriculum specialist. Now, I look forward to my new role and I'm thrilled to get started.

It is very important that the Ellington staff and myself fulfill our mission of providing opportunities for all students to work cooperatively and become independent thinkers. We strive to support our students so that they become lifelong learners who grow into constructive, responsible members of society. Please know that I will always support our students, families, and staff in fulfilling our mission, therefore, I encourage you stay active in supporting our students academically and emotionally.

We have four new additions to our team including myself, two teachers, and an assistant principal-Karen Aristizabal. Ms. Jimenez will teach our TK/K combo and I have been told that she is organized and professional, and will be greatly missed by her colleagues from her previous school. Miss Victoria, described as “fabulous,” by one of her colleagues, is our new 6th grade teacher. I am thrilled about our new staff members and look forward to working with them.

As for the rest of our esteemed staff, we will work together to do everything we can to support our Eagles. We will constantly engage in reflection and learning opportunities to help us better serve our students and community. I am confident that we will succeed at providing an environment where students thrive.

Please note that I will do everything I can to provide our children with a safe nurturing environment that promotes lifelong learning. I value your input and believe that with your support and involvement the possibilities are endless, therefore, my door is always open. I look forward to a spectacular school year at Ellington!

Go Eagles!!!!

Thank you,

Alexis Norman
